Abi Gabisa Guta serves as the Law and Technology Fellow at MFC. He brings a powerful combination of legal expertise and technical acumen to the organization. His work directly supports initiatives at the crucial intersection of digital security, data governance, and human rights.
In this role, Mr. Guta leverages his skills to enhance MFC’s fact-checking and information security protocols. He focuses on protecting sensitive information and ensuring robust data governance. His efforts fortify the organization’s capacity to manage complex digital evidence while upholding the rule of law.
Mr. Guta possesses over six years of professional experience as a SQL Developer and Data Analyst. He specializes in Microsoft SQL Server, data warehousing, ETL development, and business intelligence. Currently, he serves as a Data Analyst and SQL Developer at Boon-Chapman. There, he develops enterprise data solutions, manages data integrity, and facilitates secure, data-driven decision-making.
His educational background is equally distinguished. He holds an Associate Degree in Cyber and Network Security from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He also earned a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from Dilla University in Ethiopia. Before relocating to the United States, he served as an Assistant Lecturer at Mizan-Tepi University School of Law. During his tenure, he taught undergraduate law courses, conducted in-depth legal research, and mentored students.
At MFC, Mr. Guta is a key leader of the Data Bank Initiative, the organization’s flagship accountability project. He collaborates with other Fellows to develop and manage a secure database documenting senior Ethiopian government officials, military officers, and other public figures. His responsibilities extend to verifying, organizing, and analyzing the collected information. He also ensures the highest standards of database security.
The Data Bank serves a vital purpose: to preserve reliable information for future accountability and human rights documentation. Mr. Guta’s meticulous approach to data management and security strengthens MFC’s credibility and operational integrity. Ultimately, his passion lies in applying his unique interdisciplinary expertise to support mission-driven efforts in transitional justice.
