Minister of Justice, Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia

Hanna Arayaselassie (b. 15  January  1980, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia) was appointed Minister of Justice of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia on 18 October 2024, leading the ministry responsible for legal affairs, rule of law, and judicial reform.

Hanna earned a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from Addis Ababa University and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from New York University School of Law.

Her career spans academia, public service, and institutional leadership. She began as a lecturer at Addis Ababa University School of Law and later served as a Senior Policy Researcher at the Prime Minister’s Office. In March 2020, Hanna became Chief Executive Officer of the Ethiopian Postal Service (Ethiopost), where her reforms significantly enhanced institutional performance. She was appointed Deputy Commissioner of the Ethiopian Investment Commission (EIC) in January 2023 and soon elevated to Commissioner of EIC in 2024 before her appointment as Minister of Justice.

As Minister of Justice, Hanna focuses on strengthening the rule of law, advancing legal reforms, enhancing prosecution and justice systems, and promoting human rights. Her leadership also includes representing Ethiopia in international legal and human rights forums and fostering cooperation to uphold justice and institutional integrity.
