Minister of Women and Social Affairs, Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia

Ergoge Tesfaye (b. 1980, Hosanna, Ethiopia) was appointed Minister of Women and Social Affairs in October 2022, leading the ministry responsible for gender equality, social protection, and women’s empowerment programs.

Ergoge holds a Bachelor’s degree in Foreign Language and Literature and a Master’s degree in Gender Studies from Addis Ababa University, as well as a PhD in Social Anthropology from Andhra University, India.

Her career spans academia and public administration. She served as Minister of Labor and Social Affairs from October 2018 to October 2022 and was Vice President at Wachemo University from January 2017 to 2018.

As Minister of Women and Social Affairs, Ergoge focuses on gender equality, women’s empowerment, social welfare programs, and policy development to support vulnerable populations and promote inclusive social development across Ethiopia.
