Aisha Mohammed (b. in Berhale in the Afar Region and grew up in Assab) was appointed Minister of Defense in 2018, becoming Ethiopia’s first female Minister of Defense, and continues to lead the nation’s defense and security policies.
She holds a BSc in Civil Engineering from Addis Ababa University and an MA in Transformational Leadership and Change from the University of Greenwich (UK).
She previously served as Minister of Irrigation and Lowland Development and Minister of Construction, gaining extensive experience in government administration, infrastructure development, and strategic management.
As Minister of Defense, Aisha focuses on national security, military modernization, defense policy, and strategic coordination, ensuring the readiness and operational effectiveness of Ethiopia’s armed forces.
