Minister of Labor and Skills Development, Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia

Muferihat Kamil Ahmed (b. in Jimma, Ethiopia) is the Minister of Labor and Skills Development, leading the ministry responsible for workforce development, labor policies, and skills enhancement programs.

She graduated from Haramaya University with a BSc in Agriculture in 2000. Muferihat has had a long career in public service and women’s affairs. She began as a junior public relations officer at the EPRDF office in Addis Ababa in 2008 and was appointed Public Relations Advisor to the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples’ Region (SNNPR) President in 2007.

She became Minister of Women’s Affairs in 2008 at age 32, making her the youngest appointee under the late Prime Minister Meles Zenawi. She later served as the first Minister of Peace from October 2018 to 6 October 2021 and as Speaker of the House of Peoples’ Representatives in April 2018, becoming the first female to hold that position.

As Minister of Labor and Skills Development, Muferihat focuses on workforce training, skills development, labor rights, and employment policies, aiming to enhance human capital and promote inclusive economic growth in Ethiopia.
