Shewit Shanka Shashigo was appointed Minister of Culture and Sport in July 2024, succeeding Kejela Merdasa, and is responsible for advancing Ethiopia’s cultural preservation, sports development, and youth engagement initiatives.
She chaired the Urban Infrastructure and Transport Affairs Standing Committee. She also managed the Addis Ababa Education and Training Quality Professional Competence and Assessment Assurance Authority.
Her career includes senior leadership in cultural and governmental services, contributing to the promotion of arts, heritage, and sports programs across the country.
As Minister, Shewit focuses on enhancing cultural institutions, developing sports programs, fostering youth participation, and promoting Ethiopia’s cultural identity at national and international levels.
