Belete Molla Getahun was appointed Minister of Innovation and Technology on 6 October 2021, leading the ministry responsible for promoting technological advancement, digital transformation, and innovation-driven development in Ethiopia.
Belete holds a B.A. in Philosophy from Addis Ababa University, followed by an M.A. in Philosophy from the same university (2010–2013), an M.A. in Applied Ethics through the Erasmus Mundus program jointly from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and Linköping University (Sweden), and a PhD in Philosophy from Addis Ababa University in 2021.
Belete’s career includes leadership in technology, innovation policy, and public sector management, focusing on advancing digital infrastructure, supporting startups, and fostering research and development initiatives nationwide.
As Minister of Innovation and Technology, Belete focuses on enhancing national innovation capacity, promoting digital economy initiatives, advancing technological education, and encouraging research and development to strengthen Ethiopia’s competitiveness in science and technology.
