Tagesse Chafo is the speaker of the House of Peoples Representatives of Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. He was first appointed to the position in October 1,  2018 replacing the former speaker Muferiyat Kamil. Tagesse was  re-appointed as a speaker in October 2021.

Prior to being appointed as Speaker, Tagesse was the Minister for Public Service and Human Resource Development. He had also served in different positions in the Southern Nations and Nationalities Regional State as the Commissioner for Investment Commission, Head of Trade and Industry Bureau, Head of Civil Service Bureau, Deputy President and later in the Policy research Institute.
