Daniel Bekele is the Chief Commissioner at Ethiopian Human Rights Commission since February 2019.  

Daniel has a PhD and an MA in International Law and Legal Studies from University of Oxford, and LLB from Addis Ababa University.

Prior to his current appointment as the Chief Commissioner of the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission, Daniel was the Senior Advisor at Amnesty International based in New York, US. He has also worked for Human Rights Watch based in New York, US as a senior director for Africa from 2007-2011. While in Ethiopia, Daniel has worked in ActionAid International, Ethiopia as the Policy Research and Advocacy manager from 2004-2005. Daniel has also worked as the director of the Legal Department at United Insurance SC from 2001-2002; and as a legal consultant in a private law firm maned Abebe Worke & Associates Law Firm and Consultant from 1999-2001. In the 2005 Nation Election, Daniel was one of the key figures that played the role of organizing CSOs to monitor the election. He was imprisoned from 2005-2008 in connection with his role and comment on the process of the election.
