Adanech Abebe is the 32nd mayor of Addis Ababa City. She was appointed to the position by the city council in September 2021. Adanech was first appointed as the chief executive of the City administration with the rank of Deputy Mayor by the incumbent prime minister in August 2020. She is the first women mayor of the city.
Adanech was the mayor of Adama city before becoming the head of the then OPDO secretariat in April 2018.
In October 2018, she was appointed as the Minister of Revenue as one of the 10 women ministers in the cabinet of the prime minister Abiy Ahmed.
In March 2020, she served as the first woman to be the Attorney General of Ethiopia until she became the mayor of the capital city in August 2020.
