Notes

Demeke Mekonen Hassen is the Deputy Prime Minister of Ethiopia since 2013. He is also the Minister of Foreign Affairs since November 2020. He was reappointed as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs in October 2021 in a new cabinet established following the June 2021 National election.  

Demeke is the Vice-Chairman of Prosperity Party. He has BSc degree in Biology from Addis Ababa University, and an MA in Political Science from Bradford University, England.

Demeke was the Head of Amhara Regional State Administrative and Security Affairs Bureau from 2002-2005 and Deputy President of the Amhara Regional State from 2005-2009. He was also chair of the Amhara National Democratic Movement (ANDM), and Deputy Chair of EPRDF in 2010 and 2013, respectively. At federal level, he was the Minister of Education from 2010 -2014. In 2013, addition to his Minister of education portfolio, he was appointed as Deputy Prime Minister in a cabinet reshuffle made by the former Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn. Following the 2018 political change, Demeke retained his Deputy Prime Minister position.
